Ear muff are a must, period. Don't screw up your kid's hearing.

Bring him a set of binoculars and a bb gun. He's gonna sleep, bring a blanket and snacks.

Have fun, I took my 4 year olds once each last year and it was fun. I let them "shoot" at a doe with the bb gun and it was pretty funny.

People said hearing protection, and that's a great idea. I would go as far as to purchase the powered muffs. That way, you can have a conversation and talk during the hunt and he won't be taking hearing protection on and off.

Hunted saturday morning solo had 8 young bucks come out together and feed for about 10 min.. three 8 points a 6 point and four spikes nothing worth shooting. Took my son to the same stand that afternoon we got in at 3 he was good for the first 15 min then he started getting restless kicking the walls spinning around on the chair etc lol he only lasted till about 4:30 nedless to say we didnt see any but it was still one of my best hunts to date.

Boy I learned my lesson on seeing stuff vs comfort hearing protection. My sons first duck hunt was in flooded timber at 4yrs old. I FORGOT the ear muffs. I put hime in a blind and then we proceeded to shoot three ducks at first light, but not standing in the blind next to him. Didnt matter. Hunt over before 7am. funny thing was he was happy as a lark leaving the shooting hole because he thought the boat ride was huge fun.

he's 11 now and he'll be shooting with me and his grandfather Saturday morning. He keeps track of his own earmuffs now for some reason.
