I wouldn't waste money on a Macbook in that case then. Can definitely find a laptop under $500 that would suit your needs.
I never understood this line of thinking.
It's like someone looking at a Mercedes at the dealership, and someone asks "what are you going to use it for?" and the guy says "well, I'm going to use it to drive to and from work, and I'll run errands with it, too, you know, normal car stuff." And the first guy responds "Why are you looking at a Mercedes then? I can definitely find you a Kia under $15K that would suit your needs."
Maybe he doesn't want a piece of shite laptop?

Nothing new is going to be a piece of shite. Since his needs don't require a high powered and expensive machine maybe he would like to spend that money elsewhere. I realize sitting around at the coffee shop or airport on a MacBook makes you look really cool, but sometimes it just isn't worth it.

What is a piece of shite laptop if you don’t mind me asking? What's the point of paying all that money for a laptop if you're going to be doing very basic things on it. I’d say the same thing if he was looking for a Windows Laptop. From his post, his needs would more than be met with laptop with an i3 Processor.
He can buy this piece of shite Lenovo for $549.

The flaw here is equating Mercedes with Apple and Kia with everything else and neglecting everything in between.
Let's stick to the car talk for a second. What's in a Mercedes that makes it better than a Kia? This should be very easy to answer. And yes, I'm setting you up.
Be less stupid.
