Nothing new is going to be a piece of shite.
BS.
Anything made by HP or Toshiba is going to be a POS.

Here we go with that shite. What a random selection of brands.

I'd probably just get an iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard if I were you. Surface Pro 3 is nice too, but more pricey.
I had a MBA a few months ago that I ended up returning. Didn't love the screen on it, so I'd definitely wait for the retina version if that's an issue.

any bluetooth keyboards recommended for iPad mini? With the ability to use microsoft word (for free) on ipad now, I may use that to take notes in meetings rather than lugging around my 17" Dell.
Only problem is, no freaking wifi in my office.

Go with a Macbook. However I'm kind of a Mac fanboy so don't listen to me. :)

Surface 3 are nice. Stay away from the Surface 2 though.

I currently have the '09 13 inch Macbook unibody. I'm considering looking at the macbook air & other smaller laptops. Especially since I'm mainly using this for streaming music/tv shows, writing & normal internet use.
Personally I would say it comes down not to the features of the laptop, as with the exception of a touch screen and maybe a stylus pen, mac should have those same features. But I think it comes down to the OS. That is if price isn't an option.
I think Mac OS is better than Windows, at-least for users who want something user friendly. Because you have a mac I think it is best to stick mac because you are use to it.
But I do think that you can still get a solid computer if it's not a mac. Probably even better than the air for the same or less of a price.
Personally if I was only using it for light RAM use, than it should come down to price and OS.

I use the anker bluetooth keyboard is pretty good. Cheeper than the apple version and does just as good of a job.

I have owned both, currently own a MB, and use a PC at work. Most people that use Mac also know how to use a PC, but not as often the other way around.
The biggest reason for staying with Mac is the ease of transferring everything to the new computer. However, most important files can be shared between each OS. He is really only possibly limited by some software.
I personally don't find Macs any easier to use, and even find that browsing your folders and files is often easier on a PC.
The constant catastrophic failures we had with PCs growing up, worse experiences on my two Dell laptops, and current issues with computers at work have made me personally more a fan of what Mac has to offer.
The peace of mind and track pad alone has made me a loyal fan. However, I don't like how they try and make you a slave to their ecosystem, but do recognize that it in theories helps with quality control.
