Alabama had a similar penalty happen to them at a similar spot on the field in OT. Difference?
Well, for starters, one was actually a PF and the other was not. The second difference is that the one called on Vadal was after several seconds of pushing and shoving originally instigated by Reed on your DL shiving Ethan Pocic in the grill and then slamming him in the chest.
In short, at worst Vadal was the last part of a scrum that was started by a BAMA player and should have been an offsetting call on both teams. At best, officials should have had the good sense to simply separate the players as they do 99 times out a 100 in the case of having 8 guys shoving in other.
Again...I actually have no patience at all listening to justifications from a BAMA fan when the #3 guy in the SEC offices and person most responsible for setting schedules is an Alabama alumnus and the head of officials is an Alabama alumnus. 13 other members of the conference have absolutely no where to turn if and when they have an issue come up that would otherwise involve Alabama. And our AD is more concerned today with apologizing for our students than addressing this ongoing frickery.
I mean...kudos for building the self sustaining machine, but at least have the courtesy to not pretend it doesn't exist. If the SEC offices were set up in New Orleans, and the vast majority of support staff were LSU fans, and an LSU alumnus sat in the #3 chair of the conference as well as one as the head of officiating, I'm not quite sure I could find the gall to compound that good fortune with pretending it wasn't PROBABLY likely to have some pretty direct and positive effects for LSU.
