it is, which is a point I always make to my foreign friends who are quick to point out that the USA is behind almost every other first-world country in happiness and QoL assessments conducted.
however, it would be irresponsible to simply dismiss the possibility as too subjective and not investigate room for possible improvement

It's more of a mindset our society has than anything. People here live to work, they don't work to live. Once people start valuing free time over work we'll see a change. Legislation is not needed for this. We don't need the gov't to try to "fix" everything.

Yeah this is one of those times my libertarian views get challenged. If I owned a business, I'd want my employees fresh. I also believe a healthy life outside of work helps people come up with new ideas. One of Steve Job's best ideas came from taking a typography class.

How would you know? Do you consider yourself 'highly educated?' Did you graduate from HS? Which one?
For example..

you can argue that those other countries are able to do it because they dont have to support a massive, global military like we do but that only attacks the viability of the option, not the actual merit therein.
This would be the sentence structure of a 6th grader. Would you like to diagram it?

I'm a 4th year pharmacy student. I don't proof-read my internet posts for proper grammar; I don't give a shite. I obviously touched you in a no-no spot at some point, I think you need to relax.

It takes you 4 years and you still can't work at Wal-Mart? How sad.

That's what I want in my pharmacist.

Yeah, class warfare. You're very slow on the uptake. How surprising.

If I were any more relaxed I would be dead.

where did I ever talk about class-warfare?
3+4, actually. trying to get a residency to stay out of wal-mart, though.
you have to not give a shite about a lot of things as a pharmacist or you'll off yourself. seriously.
anyway, you gonna personally insult me and bleed all over the thread, or contribute to the discussion?

Uh, is this not class warfare? Did you not post it?
quote:
so you agree with me that only a select few individuals are able to enjoy negotiating power in order to get more time off?
Posted on 11/9/14 at 4:14 pm to Zach
I don't see how stating that some individuals have more desirable skill sets (and thus have more bargaining power) is class warfare. It's a fact of life.

I can do both at the same time.
Posted on 11/9/14 at 4:15 pm to Zach
nah, actually you can't, cause I'm out if you're just gonna act like a teenage girl
Posted on 11/9/14 at 4:16 pm to Zach
For what it's worth, you're acting like an a-hole.

If not, then what is? Your premise is that class warfare does not exist at all.

You're out because you're getting your arse whipped.

Why?

no, my premise is that I think it's better as a society for everyone to get a good amount of time off. right now, I only see those able to bargain receiving the time off. I can't envision a way to change the culture of the country like some have suggested, which I do agree is the best method. I just dont know how to do it.
you're making huge leaps with my statements, connecting dots I didn't even draw

the majority of your posts have done nothing but spew insults, only a few actually addressed the issue. this isn't an asswhipping, its a childish.

And only those who are able can buy a car. And only those who are able can buy a house. And only those who are able can join a golf club. Your paradigm is totally class warfare and totally predictable. If you want time off, get yourself into a position where you can bargain for it.
I did. I was born into abject poverty with very little to eat. It's not hard to do. You have fallen into a mindset of class warfare and it won't work well for you.
Posted on 11/9/14 at 4:26 pm to Zach
I can see how it could be construed as class warfare, but I'm not necessarily blaming the top for the maladies of the bottom. I'm just saying I think its better, for the nation and society as a whole, for people to get more time off. I'm not sure if it should be a luxury that is earned.
At first I didn't think it was a big deal but some of the thought processes in favor of it make sense. I'm trying to open my mind to the possibility my free-market attitude could be wrong and maybe it can't fix everything- this is a road block I'm trying to work through to prove my philosophy is the right one.
