Wow. Where to start?. . .

First, for anyone planning to see Interstellar, see it in the largest format possible! The visuals were breathtaking and should be experienced in all their glory. There were some very moving moments in the movie - I had chills and tears at various intervals - but there were also some moments I feel were meant to be moving but were not. The characters' emotions weren't always that convincing to me.

Nolan aimed for an epic scale and certainly achieved it. It is long, but it's not overlong. Visuals in space get an A+. I feel like the plot could've used some whittling down / fine-tuning; it was too jumpy IMO. Some of the dialogue was a little hokey/unconvincing. As far as I could tell (and I'm no expert), all the science seemed accurate and understandable for general audiences. Almost everything made sense to me, except for one major question that's left unanswered (I'll save it for later so as not to spoil anything).

Acting was good by all; no one stood out as exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. I actually found the score a little disappointing. That's probably because Zimmer sets the bar so high for himself. It wasn't bad per se, but it wasn't his best work either.

Overall, a very solid movie, and definitely worth seeing in IMAX at least once, but it's not a masterpiece IMO. It didn't blow me away like, say, Inception.

I pretty much agree with you verbatim. Will post more after the weekend about it. It's a tough film to analyze right away because it's so much to handle. But my initial judgments were it was very very good, but not really close to being a masterpiece. I don't think it even touches 2001, but it was cool to see all of Nolan's nods to that film. It really is a wonderful experience and a visually stunning movie though.

I'd give it around a 7/10 also. Inception was much better.

I agree with most of this.
