I'm left handed and always hand a left side reel back to someone that hands one to me. Guides are the worst about this. I cast with my left and feel with my right. Proof that the inventor of a reel was left handed and extremely knowledgeable.

And I am right handed, so one would think a left handed reel would work better for me... Keep the dominant hand on the rod

My son is left handed, and I thought I could get away with this when teaching him to bass fish. Nope. I watched him cast left-handed, and then flip the reel over and reel backwards.
So, for his 6 b-day he got a left-handed reel. And, a few days later a 1 lb bass in heavy grass, gave him a fight, and me a lifelong memory.
