What kind of kayak do you have?
I have this one (see below) and I stuffed a soft ice chest into the front compartment. When it put it in the water, I put some ice in the ice chest. When I catch a fish, I shimmy up to the front and slide him in. I tried a stringer but didn't like it because of (a) the drag when paddling and (b) I fish in a spot with a lot of that spongy marsh grass and the fish get caught up.
