What are the inhumans. Not a comic reader but I've usually at least heard of a character.

Sort of another mutant race, separate from the X-Men variety. Each Inhuman has their own powers and insane appearance.
Marvel is elevating them as their version of the X-Men.
But they were a great concept on their own.

Simply put: A Kree genetic experiment. They receive their powers by inhaling a compound called the Terragen Mist.
They're also a Royal Family of sorts. Their leader, Black Bolt, has a power so deadly and destructive that he's afraid of it. Basically, the sound waves of his voice are so powerful they can break planets.
