The choice to not make this debate was made shortly after qualifying. He committed to two debates at the point.

So not joining this debate has nothing to do with his first debate performance. It wasn't the best, but it was fine.

My issue with Cassidy's campaign is that despite focusing exclusively on saying that Mary is Obama and that Cassidy is not Landrieu, he really hasn't differentiated himself that much outside of Obamacare (which honestly should be all that matters, but this is Louisiana). They both cut medicare, they both voted for the Patriot Act, they both raised the debt ceiling, they both are pro big government. The only difference seems to be that Landreiu has been better at getting pork for Louisiana, and that Cassidy won't support Obama's appointees and may possibly support decriminalization of marijuana (he admitted to such in the last debate, his only real GREAT moment). Obviously, Cassidy is an improvement, but looks like a "more of the same" kind of politician.
