I guess I should've clarified. For "millenia" in this instance, extends from the fall of (western) Rome around 400AD until the Enlightenment around the 1600s.

The Greek and western Roman empires did not exist at this time. China is not in the West at all. I can't help you if you don't understand basic timelines and geography.

The Crusades, which happened hundreds of years ago in a world we don't really understand, which we only know about in a relatively murky sort of way, are relevant.

The 20th century acts of religion-banning governments are not relevant.
