From Nashville area, grew up a Titans fan.
I apologize. I thought you were the typical LSU fan who is now a huge fan of the Titans since Mett is going to start.

Well you said the team has no talent. You didn't outright say Kendall Wright isn't good, but if you told me the Texans had no talent on defense, I would call you an idiot for dismissing JJ Watt.
Kendall Wright isn't Watt good obviously, but the point is that you lumped him in with a bad supporting cast.

But let's pump the brakes on him being a top 5 TE in the league

Care to quote me saying that?
You were hinting with the whole "2nd amongst TEs in receiving yards..."
"with Charlie freaking Whitehurst"

Well you said the team has no talent.
Maybe we're just on different wavelengths. When I think of "all the talent in the world surrounding him", I'm thinking of groups like the Broncos, 49ers, Bears, Packers. Not Titans. Not Hunter, Wright, Walker, Greene and Sankey. That is an average supporting cast.

Titans weapons are probably league average. Wright is a very solid possession guy and Walker is a solid TE. Their running game has been decent this year but none of their backs jump out.

You continue to make assumptions and have to back track.
You now admit Wright and Walker are good players. I also look at Justin Hunter is a guy that could explode on the scene if he gets a QB that can stretch the field, which Mett has the arm to do. You'll probably disagree and that's fine.
This guy gets it.

quote:I never said they weren't good players. Jesus. I disagreed that Mett has "all the talent in the world around him" and I stand by that statement as well. See above for what I consider "has all the talent in the world around him" to mean.
You now admit Wright and Walker are good players.
The only backtracking I've done is regarding you being a fan of the Titans. I incorrectly assumed that you were a bandwagon tiger fan that is now a fan of the Titans because Mett is the starter based off your "now they are my favorite team" statement. For that, I have already apologized.
ETA: Just went back and read all of my posts. I stand by everything I said. Never called the offensive skill players terrible or bad. I called the Titans terrible, which they are. I said Mett does not have all the talent in the world around him, that he does not have an all-star around him, and that his offensive weapons are league average. All of that I stand by.

I didn't say that. Again, different poster. You were making fun of said other poster for saying above quote because the team sucks right now. And I jumped your arse for thinking a team's current success should dictate fandom.
Discussion over. I think Mett has the weapons on the outside to succeed. You don't think they're that good. Everybody agrees the O-line is a concern for Mett's progression.

quote:Yup. Different poster. Again, apologies. Just assumed it was him responding to me. Not that it really means anything now, but it was more of a warning to said poster than me making fun of him. Titans are not a fun team to watch. That was how the comment was intended, then all hell broke loose.

We're an agitated bunch the last few years. I truly believe the talent is there to be a playoff team if we could get consistent QB play. Perhaps that's the problem, I actually believe. I miss McNair

The original comment said Mett has "all the talent in the world around him." I don't think he does. That's not an all-star cast. If Mett has all the talent in the world around him, then every QB in the league does as well.
I didn't say they have All-star talent. But when you talk about bona-fide All star WRs that would succeed anywhere, there's only a couple of those in the league anyway. A team doesn't need that person to win a Super Bowl.
Skill position depth in the NFL is immense. There's more capable skill position players than there are slots available for them.
I think pretty much every team does have enough skill position talent to compete in the NFL. And some of those players would be all stars if they had great QBs throwing to them. What was Demaryius Thomas doing before Manning? Being a mediocre WR. Now he's a top 5 WR. There are many WRs in this league that could be doing what he's doing in that offense.
The thing is there aren't enough great QBs to take advantage of the talent. There's a QB talent shortage, not a skill position shortage.

Had to be done, really like Jake as a person and he has moments of being a good QB but he just isn't consistent enough and the biggest problem of course is that he is an injury waiting to happen at all times
FWIW, I didn't think he was worthy of such a high pick but it's not his fault we took him so high

Mett had more talent in college around him. Odell and Jarvis are better than the Titans receivers. Watch what Jarvis is about to do in Miami. Already moved up to their number 2 receiver.

Not even close right now.
First, Tenn has a pretty good TE.
Tenn has some pretty good weapons with Walker, Wright, Washington, Hunter , and McCluster

I'm done with this topic, but I had to address this.
quote:Demaryius Thomas is probably my favorite WR in the league. Arguably has the best physical attributes in the NFL behind Calvin. 6'3", 230, 4.38 forty, the speed to break 80 yard runs and the strength to stiffarm mfers in the face. You can't hold the Tebow-era against him. Literally no WR can succeed with Tebow at the helm. I think DT is a top 5 WR even with a half-decent QB.

Was in his 2nd year and did pretty damn well. Year #3 is a year a lot of WR's make a jump

Even so, the switch came on in 2011.
He averaged 106 yards in the last 7 games of 2011

You all are making my point.
I like D. Thomas as well. I'm just saying you can't look at a WR's results without considering who's getting him the ball. My original point was the Titans have the skill position talent. To look at their results and say the talent isn't there is a mistake IMO. Justin Hunter and Kendall Wright don't suck.
Most WRs will underperform with a bad QB. There's only a few transcendent talents in the NFL. I happen to think Calvin Johnson could still beast even with Tebow getting him the ball.

Yeah I think anyone who followed football recognized Thomas as an elite talent that would become a star once he was paired with a real QB. Even if he was playing with someone like Flacco or Eli I think he'd be putting up huge numbers
So calling him a mediocre WR like you did isn't really fair
