He was paid $100,000 less than Trent Johnson. Ridiculous.

Ok, so the mistake paying Trent Johnson too much should bite us here too??? Hell at least Trent had a tournament appearance.

No, but I'm just saying he was underpaid before.
If you expected LSU to keep Jones as the 12th best paid coach out of 14 in the SEC with the team he has put together than you are just taking advantage of the fact that Jones would do anything for the LSU program. He will never leave on his own accord unless he thinks it is better for LSU. He is an honorable man who loves LSU.

I love LSU too, but win some meaningful games and at least make an appearance in the tournament before getting a raise.

He has more wins in his first 2 years than any other coach in LSU history.
He is building a program. Sometimes you have to look past just the W's and L's and look at the way things are being handled.
It's blatantly obvious that the basketball program is in a much better place than it was just a few years ago.
He made a trip to the NIT last season and is projected to finish 3rd or 4th in SEC this year which would likely get us a tournament birth. LSU likely using buy low technique here paying him before he deserves more.

So what? Win something. One NIT appearance and two .500 SEC records are not worthy of an extension and a raise. Congrats that he's moved us to mediocrity, but I don't think mediocrity should be rewarded.
And he should be paid less than Trent Johnson. Trent went to the Sweet 16 at Nevada and Stanford and won an SEC title here.

We were paying Trent 1.2mm and Jones has been MUCH better than TJ.

They actually have...
Trent Johnson went 67-64 in 4 years, good for a .511 win percentage
Johnny Jones has gone 39-26 in 2 years, good for a .600 win percentage.
TJ inherited an awesome roster and went 27-8 in his first year. After that he went 11-20, 11-21, and 18-15.... Just Horrible.
In Trent Johnson's last 3 years, he won 12 total SEC games.
Jones has won 9 in each of his two seasons.

Johnson in the SEC - 25–39 (.391), including 13-3 his first year.
Jones is 18-18 in the SEC in two years without the aide of inheriting a loaded roster his first year.

Jones had plenty enough players to get in the tournament last year.

Not a fan of the timing at all, but I understand he's a lot better than 12th in the SEC.

That's debatable, though I think the consensus was that we'd be a bubble-caliber team and with a few breaks could get in the tourney. That said, there were a few games I thought we had no business losing last year.
Either way, it's pretty near undeniable that we're headed in the right direction if you follow recruiting and you couple that with the hiring of Musselman as a bench coach. This roster is the first that really fits the mold personnel-wise of what Jones wants/likes. I probably would have waited until after this year to address extending his contract, but I think the raise was warranted. On the flip side, I think having him locked in through 2019 should even further stabilize recruiting, so overall I'm not 100% decided on how I feel about the extension.

I am 100% behind this. Exactly how I feel on it.

I've been a season ticket holder since Trent's second year and I upgraded my seats this year. I think we make the tourney this year, and make a serious run next year. I have a lot more faith in Johnny Jones than most fans though.

I think the Musselman hiring was great, but giving Jones a raise and extension prior to the season is puzzling. If he produces on the court, then by all means, but I'm sorry he needs to produce results.
Like I said regardless of what he does this year he is safe, but what is the expectation after that? With Simmons he at least has to compete for an SEC Championship, no? If he doesn't is he canned, on the hot seat? We pretty much already know without some kind of crazy scenario that Simmons will be a one and done.

Except, you know, SEC caliber guards.
Don't get me wrong, I love Hickey and Stringer, but they were a serious liability defensively.
