If you believe this then I question your knowledge about cars. You can squeeze quite a bit of power and speed out of a Honda 4-banger. It just takes a lot more than an exhaust.

Getting horsepower out of a 4 cyl. is not impossible, but you're still going to lack torque, and in most cases, you're driving it through the front wheels. Good luck managing that additional HP through a FWD w/o reengineering the whole damn car.
It's just easier to work with more displacement and RWD.
