You think grass cutting and baby-sitting are comparably hard? Grass cutting requires gasoline, your own equipment, and the grass doesn't cut itself for 4 of the 5 hours. The OP is kind of right on his point. Baby sitters are often times family friends who get overpaid, rather than a market wage, as a favor.

I don't know if that contributes to the phenomenon of women thinking they deserve more pay or not. But I could certainly see a case of being in for a rude awakening when a girl realizes that her brother's "grass cutting" and her "babysitting" are no longer valued the same in the real world.

$20 an hour? Ha!

$50 from 6p to 12a. Kids in bed by 9p. Good sitters used to do the dishes and pick up after kids went to sleep

Hell no. One is caring for the well being of human life. The other is pushing a lawn mower.

Would you let the Spanish speaking immigrant watch your child when you were away? Would you let him cut your grass?
