The only one that is really free is Credit Karma. You can get your report from the big three once a year.
But your FICO you have to pay to see or go to Credit Karma. The issue with CK is that some say it's usually 20-30 points off.
Free Credit Report is a huge scam. I did the same thing as your son years back. "secure account with CC, $1 deposit, you have 15 days to cancel or you automatically agree to a $18 month contract" It's a scam. bullshite that they can use that name.

I get my FICO monthly with Discover. It's been a nice perk
