Yeah, Whitlock is a gas bag. I don't get why people always preface their criticism of him with "he's a good writer". He's not. Whitlock only cares about his own cult of personality.

Simmons is really good at big picture ideas. I think he's well-suited to a more managerial role with only the occasional column. I do think he's a lot like Tony Kornheiser in the sense both are outsized egos who have a similar belief that this should all be fun. I think Tony K is a better writer, by far, but Tony K couldn't put together something like 30 for 30.

I think ESPN is the only place Simmons can be Simmons, Fox will not pour the same resources into him and give him the same branding opportunity. Grantland is the best thing he's ever done, and he couldn't do it at Fox. Besides, those writers will not all follow him out the door.
