When I was a kid there was a farm pond near my house that had a trap. I was a 55 gallon drum in the water with a hinged 2x6 attached to the top that angled down to the water outside the drum. The turtles would crawl up on the board to get some sun. The weight of the turtle would cause the board to tip down and drop them in the drum. You may have to add some weight on the bottom side 2x6 over the drum to make it tetter totter the turtle into the drum.
