So my friend, in other words, it is a "code word" amongst those of a more Progressive/Liberal bent? It does not have to be specifically believed, simply implied. Correct?

I'm not following. Is what a "code word"? Do I think Moore is a new-earth creationist?

On the internet doesn't count. I want to see one in the wild.

This is like seeing a lion at the zoo or seeing one in Africa.

No comparison.

I would say I am the same way IRL as I am on the internet. But I will cede the point. Next time I am in Louisiana I will have to come by and let you see one of us in the wild. Pretty unimpressive actually.

You're on TD.

Of course you're unimpressive IRL.

It was actually just one, Vegas Bengal. I only gave Roy Moore as an example of a judge that believes the earth is only 6000 years old, and he's not the only one in this state, just the most popular. And he has actually interspersed many of his religious beliefs into his opinions, including one ruling as a circuit judge when he blocked a school district from teaching evolution.

I don't want to actually talk to you. I just want to observe you from a distance in your natural habit.

My point is no one can demonstrate that person X believes (plenty of examples throughout the thread - choose one) in a young earth but they assume that since they are Christian they believe in a young earth and hence are idiots. Exceptionally poor reasoning and tremendous logical fallacies. Judge on the whole person, not "code words" established by both ends of the political spectrum.

Just saying.

Is there a Chili's in Baton Rouge?

No matter what they try to sell you, do not pay for the experience. Not going to get your money's worth.

I'm a little surprised, Wolf. Have you always believed in YEC?

Going to Chili's is far more offensive than being a YEC, imo.

The funny thing is, on a professional level I am very highly thought of (even though I am one of "those" people). Interdasting.

I attribute it to the fact the Army has increasingly lowered their standards.

You do get that that was also a self deprecating remark, right?

Well, I am a bit older than your average poster (51) so there is an element to that (raised in parochial schools in the 70s). Quite frankly, I do not focus on the age of the earth (I use that more for discussion), I focus on the fact of a Creator. There are many plausible reasons for why the earth is the age it is. Just amazes me how flippantly our society determines someone to be an idiot simply because of their position on the theory of evolution.

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt, but when someone tells me the earth is 6-10,000 years old, I do pretty much immediately think they're an idiot. I'm not trying to be a dick, either. It's just really, really preposterous to me.

Absolutely my friend. I take much of what I see on here lightheartedly and like Scruffy use this as an opportunity to view the world through a (somewhat faulty) lens. It often functions as a social experiment for me. My only line in the sand (and I do have one) is cursing or inappropriate language. If you would not say it to my face then do not post it to me here. I know most (if not all) do not see it that way, but (sorry) I do.

I understand. You are much younger and that position is all that you have been taught. I have learned to question almost everything. And I am sorry, evolution (as a theory) does not answer the truly hard questions of life.

Again, my focus is on acknowledging a Creator. I am open to debate/discussion about other facets of it. I also recognize that my Christian worldview is not accepted by many on this board and I take no offense at that. Just the way life is.

That's the thing, man. It doesn't try to. At all. It's only concerned with how life got to the point it has, not why it got there, or for what purpose. You sound like a lot of people I know. You're concerned that evolution is attempting to take the place of a creator. Evolution, scientifically, will of course say that it's an "unguided" process. How else would it look to scientists? They can't watch God quietly move to achieve his ultimate goal, or goals. They can only see what happens and that it appears to be random.

I'm Catholic and believe in evolution, but I grew up Baptist learning all of the same things you did, only probably in a more extreme way. You're not talking to someone who doesn't get your views.

Tracking bro. Actually, I am a fundamental, independent Baptist who grew up a Catholic (GASP) so we would have a lot of things in common when it comes to shared understanding. And you are right, evolution can provide no unifying method or purpose to life. It simply says it is. It also cannot speak to a specific origin, it can only present theories. Just amazes me how many people use it as a method to say there is no God rather than saying it is a means that a Creator could (or could not) have used. I see a lot of anger from those who are former Christians and am grieved how they have been hurt in the past (and I know they have - it pours out in their posts). Very sad.

These people tend to see complex issues simply. They probably think Obama is a Muslim or that Bush made billions on the Iraq war, depending on their side of the aisle.

In my experience, churches and religious schools are incredible at creating atheists. Really.
