The company I work for has dozens of 7.3s in the fleet. Water pumps and EGR valves seem to be a common issue. We've rebuilt maybe one transmission in a 7.3 that has 400K miles. Solid motor.

My 7.3 engine blew at 120k miles. The #2 cylinder cracked the block while pulling a trailer to odessa. Everyone I talked to said that is unheard of... I have the $14,000 receipt to show for it. So for no issues with transmission. I would have gotten rid of it but need it for work and couldn't afford a new one.
