It's been going on at a lot of places. It's hard. The coach upstairs has to look at the substitutions coming on the field before he can decide exactly what play to call. Then he calls it over the wire to the sidelines, and they have to signal it to the QB - in code.

The alternative is to call plays quickly and just miss out on some matchups and alignment advantages.

Aren't the millions we pay to coaches enough to get past "hard" things like getting the play call in in a timely manner?

Or just have a call ready based on who you expect to be in the game (ie players on field from last play). If there are unexpected subs then change the play on the "check with sideline".

If you are waiting to see who the defense subs in before making your play call then you are doing it wrong. Or are you insinuating that Cam has to wait to see if Les subbed out his running back and receivers?
