Charley (LAT) was a great guy. Openly gay, though celibate in his later life, quite conservative, and quite passionate in his opposition to gay marriage. I guess some saw him as a walking contradiction, but I never did. Most people, like Charley, are far too complex to fit neatly into labels. He was who he was. I miss him.
