Sounds about right. Living in Texas, I bring that Louisiana pride everyday, and I enjoy being the contrarian in my office.

I generally agree. I've lived in 4 states in 4 regions. Never seem a place so proud as Louisisna but also never seen such joy in tearing neighbors down.

You need to surround yourself with better people because this is complete BS...generalizing an entire population is pretty ignorant too.

I agree with you. I know a good many Cajun people who are staunch Catholics and simply pull for Notre Dame, because they're a catholic school. I just don't get it, it's like an occult or something. I'm baptist, but I have never had the desire to pull for Baylor. As far as the Bama paraphernalia, I can remember pre-2005 and you couldn't find a Bama decal or flag outside the state of Alabama. Can't stand fair weather fans - they're week fans because they're week minded and shallow...stick with your team through thick and thin!

Small towns all over America are pretty much like this. Not sure it's a French thing. It's more of a "brain drain" thing where the best migrate to larger cities.

100% agree with the OP. I've been noticing it all of my years in Louisiana. It's exhausting.

LSU Fan--Yeah, we lost, but I'm still happy cause Bama lost. USL fan, yeah we lost, but I'm happy cause LSU lost. This mindset around south Louisiana is ridiculous.

I have a hard time believing this is unique to SELA. I don't have any hard evidence but ur gunna tell me there aren't a significant amount of Ohio State fans that are happy when Michigan loses? Or Yankees fans that are cheering when the Red Sox lose?

I think you are reaching a bit

Self-loathing is part of the South Louisiana character

As a native of south Louisiana now far removed from my home land, I concur with your thesis.

However, there is also cultural touchstone that can be a counter-weight to the nega-tiger (so called) motif: just look the Fighting Tiger namesake. Fighting Tigers were/are no quit die hards. Let's keep our eye on the doughnut, not the hole.
