I don't know a lot about various streamers themselves; I use a Mac Mini with a USB connection to a DAC, myself. So it's kind of the ultimate in flexibility, I can use whatever service or app works best.

Having said that - what kind of streaming are you looking to do?

- Services like Spotify, Tidal etc?
- Local content from NAS or external drive?
- From your phone or other device?

That might affect the target feature set and device that's best for your needs. Reading about the Node, it seems like it supports almost anything above. (Except for Apple Music, which is only supported by using AirPlay 2 from an i-device.)

Crutchfield has quite a few listed under $1k here:

Denon DNP-800NE looks like it might be another good choice in addition to the Node & Audiolab.

Edit: Looks like the Audiolab 6000N does NOT have AirPlay, so if that's a factor proceed accordingly.

It would be just for streaming tidal and Spotify probably 95% of the time. Airplay isn’t that big of a deal as I don’t have a huge library of music. Plus is I’m playing a concert or something on my TV, it’s going through my Apple TV. My TV is connected via an optical output to my Vena and in turn to my Vandersteens.

I have a quad vena, so technically I don’t need a DAC. But most of the streamers seem to come with a DAC. Now whether that’s better than the Quad’s DAC or not, I don’t know.

How does this work? Is it just a Mac mini or do you have a monitor hooked up too? How do you interact with your iTunes (via the DAC) how do you add music to the mini?

Just wondering cause I’ve got a pretty large iTunes collection
