I had my new slipmat come in the mail today.
Also pre-ordered the new Sufjan Stevens and Antemasque album.

Is it a bad idea to plug your phono preamp into the phono input on your receiver? I thought about trying it but I'm worried my house will explode
Posted on 1/14/15 at 9:38 pm to JumpingTheShark
Yes--you would be double amping. It should go into a line in.
Posted on 1/14/15 at 9:40 pm to Marco Esquandolas
Okay - glad I didn't try.

You would also be double equalizing. The main purpose of a "phono stage" is to re-apply, through RIAA equalization curve, the low and high frequencies that were compressed in the lacquer mastering so all the music info could fit into the groove. If that weren't done, the groove would be 4 times as wide and you would only get about six minutes per side max.

Yeah, you prolly wouldn't damage anything(if listening at low levels)but you will get a distorted abrasive sound.

$650 for a stereo cabinet?
It was actually an antique buffet I was going to use as a stereo cabinet. It was a really nice piece of furniture, but too pricey for its intended use for me.

was told to post this here
u turn orbit vs at lp120
what would you recommend for a starter setup? What does the lp120 have that the orbit doesnt to justify the price increase

The Audio Technica has a USB on it. The Orbit does not. That may be driving the price increase, but overall I would be surprised if they are very different at all for a starter setup. I went with the orbit because of its minimalist design, great reviews, and simplicity. It's just a great turntable for playing records. Those AT's are extremely popular, I just prefer the look of the orbit.

Thanks!
Jumping, have you run into issues with your "belt" stretching after going from 45RPM groove to 33RPM?
I work for a large O&G o-ring company and am considering just getting one of those with the same dimensions to replace it.

No hasn't happened yet but I have only listened to a couple of 45s since I got it in October. They sell their belts pretty cheap on the website I believe.

They're $15 for a replaceable.

I shouldn't have looked at that list!
I saw about 20 records on there that I wouldn't mind having.

Picked up the new Ryan Bingham album last night as well as Dr. Dog's new live album. Both are pretty good.
