You guys aren't helping me much with these stories.
Baby is 2 lbs, 9 oz right now, so hopefully she gets a little bigger.

My little one was only 16 ounces at birth. Almost 3 lbs is not uncommon in the preemie/nicu world. Y'all will be fine.

Also, girls statistically to better than boys in regards to prematurity. So y'all have that going in your favor as well.

How is the little one now Corn? Any lingering effects? Ours was just a feeder/grower at 2.5 lbs but I saw a lot of smaller babies in NICU and it is amazing how good those doctors are...amazing.

Definitely. Mrs. Sheep was actually just over 2 pounds when she was born. Things seem to be okay right now - I'll feel better once they give us a plan.

at 31 weeks and this size you are probably in pretty good shape now Sheep. Obviously you would want the baby to stay in as long as possible but you are in the safety zone I would think (I am not a doctor but I play one on TV)

This thread was so sweet to read, all these supportive husbands/dads.
That's pretty cool to see. Your wives are lucky they had someone to go through this with. I can't imagine the worry and concern I would feel with that news.
to you all.

She's 2 1/2 now and doing great. Only lingering thing is she wears glasses. She spent 5 months in nicu and was discharged with oxygen and heart monitor. It was really dicey for about the first month or two. We are extremely lucky that she actually survived and doesn't have any lingering issues. Unfortunately, many in our situation can't say the same.

My wife had a similar situation. Her proteins were sky high on a Wednesday. Doc gave her celestone shots on thur and fri. WIfe felt bad friday evening, rush to OB WIng of hospital, wifes BP was over 200, she had a seizure and they did emergency c section. Daughter was born 8 weeks early weighing 2lb 14 ounces. Daughter had 28 day NICU stay just to get bigger, no other issues. Wife was perfectly fine 3 days later. It was a scary time especially with baby in NICu and wife still whoozy from csection and bp meds but in the end the docs and nurses were great and all are great now. We were at LGMC in Lafayette.
Just to update: this is what ended up happening over the weekend (minus the seizure.)
Everybody is okay. Baby will be in NICU for a while.
This thread was great to give me some sort of idea of the possible outcomes. Thanks for the info everybody. It made life (a little) easier when the shite hit the fan.

My wife has it pretty bad right now and we are scheduled to deliver tomorrow.(twins)
She got it at around 30 weeks. The doctors said she would probably go at 34 weeks, but she hung in there and today is 37 weeks.
The swelling she incurred is what the doctor described as being "extreme" so I don't know if your wife will be as bad. Her blood pressure is very high, but they don't take the babies until 160/100.
The swelling is super intense at the ankles and gradually worked its way up to the lower abdomen. It's pretty freaky because it was clearly defined where the swelling stopped. Her legs are so rigid and hard, yet they are huge. I guess they're filled with blood and other bodily fluids.
So, lack of mobility is the biggest problem. She has a hard time getting around the house, putting her clothes on, getting out of the tub, etc. I basically do everything for her around the house and help her put her pants on.
We got a lazy boy at 32 weeks and she found it to be helpful up until around 35 weeks. All I can say is.. good luck and keep in mind that premature babies do a LOT better now than they used to.

I just realized how late I was to this thread. Congrats to the OP.
As I said earlier, babies do pretty well now days thanks to advances in NICU knowledge/technology. I am optimistic about your child having a positive outcome.
