Posters on here have said that (a) it's too harsh a punishment and (b) he should sue the coach for battery.

Doesn't matter at all. No one is entitled to special privilege like that scholarship afforded. They can pull it for literally anything they want. They could pull it because they just don't feel like giving him money anymore and that's ok too
