Not true. There have been huge polling movements following a bad performance in a debate.
One example. Michael Dukakis was an opponent of the death penalty. Question: What if your wife was raped and murdered? Would you want the criminal to be executed?"
He said "No." The camera switched to his wife in the front row of the gallery. She dropped her head down in shame.
His poll numbers plummeted.
