This. And i find it extremely hard to believe that a satellite cannot get an image of it if it is truly that big.

You can't see it because its not exactly visible on the surface. Most of the garbage has broken down into swirling mass of plastic syrup and tiny pieces, which appears to be getting into the bloodstream of marine life. Vice has a 3 part series on it.
