ow many guys have had Karate or Tae Kwon Do as their base and been MMA champs?
Anthony Pettis (Tae Kwon Do)
GSP (Kyokushin karate)
Anderson Silva (mixture of Thai and Tae Kwon Do)
Chuck Lidell (Kenpo Karate)
Lyoto Machida (Shotokan Karate)
Benson Henderson (Tae Kwno Do)
Actually Tae Kwon Do is starting to show up strong in MMA because they can kick from more angles than Thai Boxers and fighters have learned how to defend against Thai boxers.

Bruce lee was a 130lb actor that was addicted to speed. I like his movies but he would have his arse handed to him by any professional fighter in under a minute. Lee's fighting reputation was the product of very savvy management in a time where media coverage was limited making it much easier to get away with b.s. statements.

That's why I said "tend". No doubt there have been a few of them, but it just doesn't happen that often.
Even though MMA fights spend MUCH more time standing than they used to, fighters just cannot be successful in the sport unless they've spent TONS of time in the clinch and on the ground.
The TKD fighters you're referring to have also learned take down defense. I don't know if Bruce Lee knew the first thing about take down defense. That's the main reason I said he'd get choked to sleep in less than 2 minutes.

Ill disagree with gsp. I know he learned karate first and used it as his base at first, but since his loss to Matt Serra I would say wrestling is his base now.
