Ive been playing live for many years and the absolute no.1 piece of advice I can give you is play with your heart and not your head. You will be able to feel what the right notes are if you stay true to your heart. If you let your hands express what your heart is saying, the audience will be able to feel it. Also, dont be afraid to put on a show.

Other notes, but not nearly as important as above.
-bring at least one proven backup cable.
-bring at least one backup tube (if playing through a tube amp)
-bring a pack of 9V batteries (they will be used somehow)
-duct tape

You would think it would not need to be said, but I will add extra strings to the list. For some reason bass players are the worst for never have extra strings.
