They definitely could make it simpler.
Look at what Kiffin did with Sims.
shite tons of bubble screens and easy short passes.

Because he locks on to one receiver. There are guys running open all over the field. He never looks at anyone else. Whatever is his read out of the huddle, that is who he is throwing to. Multiple pundits have said this also.
