IMO Minter was better for one season, Sheppard easily had the better career.

My freshman year, his junior year, I used to see Minter and his girl EVERYWHERE. Quad, Kaminari, Buffalo Wild Wings, Perkins frickin Rowe, Mall of Louisiana, after football games, Plucker's, randomly in the quad, the union, bowling alley. shite was scary.

Doesn't have to do with anything but it's just strange. He's an awesome dude by the looks of it though.

That being said, IMO he's the greatest MLB since I started paying attention and watching as a 9 year old in 2002

Hard to say because D-line play has so much to do with LB performance. Overall I feel like Sheppard was the more talented LB. Minter was probably better at LSU and had some serious tools around him.

Even though the guy messed up with the 4-3-5 was Laron Landry ever used as a jackrabbit/rover type player? One of the baddest safeties even until today. I know there are clips where he absolutely lays QBs out.

Always best when you can find a gem that can move around to so many positions.

Kelvin Sheppard seemed to be the heart and soul of the defense. I remember seeing him in the middle of the pregame huddle all of the time. Minter was probably a better player, but didn't have as much personality it seemed.

I think Minter's last year here was better than any year Sheppard had, but I think Sheppard had a better career than Minter. If that makes sense.

Chad Lavalis instead of Booger

Blasphemy.

The 3 DT rotation for LSU - ALL TIME should be Dorsey (pre chop block), Booger and Henry Thomas.

Lavalais and Kyle Williams were great players and NFL quality, but not the same tier as the other three.

Both were great. We could sure use a MLB of that quality right now.

My sentiments exactly.

It's interesting that both Shep and Minter came from the same area of Metro Atlanta (about 40 minutes away from each other.

Matter of fact, so did Perry Riley.

We need to keep dialing up the North Atlanta metro area for linebackers

That defense would be ridiculous. Mostly because we would have 12 players on the field.

Give him a break, he's a HS hoops coach

Both played for Stephenson - graduated the same year, came to LSU in the same recruiting class. Riley didn't redshirt, but, otherwise, they were teammates for almost a decade.

Riley is underrated, IMHO.

Absolutely he is. And he's apparently turning out to be a really good pro too. I'm not a huge NFL fan but I love it when former tigers do well in the league.

I didn't follow Stephenson (I live in Gwinnett) during their senior year there but the defense had to be nasty

Stephenson's not North Atlanta, but they were loaded back then. had another kid on that team that went to UF and got drafted as a DE/ LB. Reggie Ball's little bro was a LB as well that went to FSU I believe. heard he was a knucklehead from some guys I know in HS coaching circles.

Go watch the Kevin Minter game film from the Florida game in 2012. That is how you play MLB. It makes me sick to think what we have at that position now.

I just wonder if you realize laron wasn't a LB.

But kelvin had better body of work as he was good for longer but minter had the best season between the 2 imo

Minter was the best MLB that I can remember at LSU.

Yeah that was a mispeak. I was thinking of Minter when I wrote that, but even he is technically NE since he's from Suwanee.

Been here for 8 years and still haven't been to Stone Mountain Seriously have to take the kids one of these days.

That's a crazy amount of talent. Didn't know they were that loaded. I actually hadn't heard of Stephenson outside of Shep and Ripley coming from their.

Marcus - was the #3 (Rivals) OLB and a member of the Rivals 100 that year. He was a 3-school guy - FSU, Pearl River CC, then Memphis.

Sounds like it.

Played CFL but signed this past spring with the Saints, as a safety, #36. Hopefully, he has matured some.

Both Riley (#27 OLB - Rivals) and Sheppard (#36 ILB - Rivals) were 3* players according to Rivals. Must have been a hell of a LB corps for a high school team.
