Anyone know of a non-dealer shop that will do oil changes and/or transmission flush on a TDI?

Yep.

I knew what it was going to cost when I bought the car, and I looked at the price breakdown which is fair on the parts...but not on the labor.

Yikes. Is that just the transmission flush and replacing filters?

That sounds more like the dealership price, I hope.

Let me know if you find some place cheaper. Mine is coming up on 40k miles. I'm thinking about letting it go to 80k before i get it done.

Little bit, but diesel oil changes are more expensive.

I've done some reading on it and there are people who say don't do this and others that say don't even thing about skipping anything...

I know the DSG's are a PITA to repair if something's wrong.

I second German Auto. If they come in my shop I always recommend they bring it to them.

German Auto and Wedge Kyes wouldn't quote me on the Tranny Flush price, but said the oil changes run right at $100...which is a good bit cheaper than Southpoint.

Also doing a bit more reading, the 40k tranny flush is actually the most important...alternating every 80k after that is likely okay.

40k with transmission job cost me $715.83 at a non-dealer VW specialty shop in Houston. The dealer quoted me ~$900+ if I remember correctly.

And yes, from everything I've read, it is important to get it done at 40k and save your receipt/documentation from the shop.

I'm at 65k and still loving the car. I recently noticed my A/C takes a few minutes for the compressor to really cool down and blow cold. I might mention it to my mechanic next time I take it in. But other than that, my only issue is the tires...

For those of you who have a recent model, check to see if you have the Hankook tires. The Hankooks are crap and the sidewalls on mine started ripping. Glad we noticed it because it looked like a blowout waiting to happen. Also, check the inside of the tire because if my outside sidewalls weren't ripping, I would have never noticed the insides.

My speculation is that the tires just aren't very good and the extra force the added torque of the TDI puts on the tire eventually rips the sidewall. Who knows though...

We have a 2013 and it has Bridgestone tires.

A/C issues are common in VW's that are used in the US because the compressor is designed with Euro temps in mind, unfortunately.

Glad you dont have the Hankooks.

Yeah, I expected AC issues eventually. And it still works fine, just blows warm for a few minutes when I first turn it on. Longer than it used to or most other cars. I feel like I need a jacket in my SO's Elantra after about 15 seconds.

ETA: pics of the tires
