In 2008, a 17-year old man jumped from the top of a parking garage in England after 300 or so people chanted for him to go for it. Some took photos and recorded video before, during and after. Afterward, the crowd dispersed, the strange spell broken. The taunters walked away wondering what came over them. The other onlookers vented their disgust into social media.

Sounds like a cop out to cover the fact that at so many people today have lost all sense of humanity and compassion. I'm sorry but if you come across a mob of people urging a guy to kill himself are you really just going to blindly join along?

I guess you're one of those who ignore the bystander effect too. your mind is just completely above proven psychological effects, right?

Several people have killed themselves on justintv as well. And I swear I remember an older dude (thought he was Russian for some reason) hanging himself live on social media/video with people egging him on and saying he wouldn't do it.

Has absolutely nothing to do with any loss of humanity. For frick's sake...if we started televising executions I'd bet my left but you'd be on the PliBoard touting their effectiveness.

In short, people are and ALWAYS HAVE BEEN brutal shitheads. The only difference between this story and how it would have happened in 1910 is that instead of the group having to be there in person to act like savages, they were able to do so anonymously.
