re: Why does the Offensive Line seem to be underperforming?

I just watched the game for the first time after recording the replay. I am very concerned with the OL play against a team they should have manhandled. Alexander played terribile and the tight ends missed several blocks. Alexander missed his man nearly everytime he came off his first block and tried to get to the LBs. Right now these guys don't look the part. Is it misses on the recruiting trail, or is it learning a new blocking scheme? They have 4 days to figure it out. The defense is not shutting out MSU. I do expect the play calling to be opened up but we'll see.

Happens every year. I think more of it is predictive play calling. It's tough for six to block nine.

Well if our TEs can't block and can't catch, we might as well put extra OTs on the LOS.

Maybe. But it seems to me that in recent years Alabama has been able to successfully run the ball against us in the most predictable situations. They run against us even on 3rd-and 6, 8 and longer-and don't have much trouble gashing our d-line. Every 2 years we hear "this is the most dominant o-line at LSU," but by season's end we're maybe 4th or 4th in the conference. The excuses run thin after awhile.

This is what I'm seeing also. We excel at recruiting skill positions, but have fallen off where it really matters on both sides of the ball.

It appears to me, and to all you guys, that, when Miles is not predictable, our games are fun to watch.

This is true, when he decides to run out of the 3 wide sets we seem to be more successful. Go figure.

Grimes? Studrawa? Evidently, there's no difference in their respective coaching abilities.

quote:That sounds like your personal problem. You bitch more after a win than anybody on this board... and the worst part is you don't know shite about football. It's so obvious you never played the game. Total x-box mentality.
and the people watching will almost always leave unsatisfied with the product on the field.

did you see how much ULM stunted and blitzed???? its their MO. i don't care who you play, its going to be tough establishing anything with a scheme like that and with a D already loading the box. no they didn't have their best game but it was a great learning opportunity.
So does this beckon the question?:::::
"Why don't we take what they are giving? ". ----- there is nothing better for your running game, than a healthy passing game....no?

i'll bet you're sorry we don't run the spread.
quote:Ours is too transparent. Every announcer for every game, and every coach that is interviewed says were are loading the box to stop the run, "we know what Les Miles wants to do".
newsflash; teams gameplan around EVERY COACHES PHILOSOPHY.
quote:HOw/why do our plays get stuffed so often and people on the internet are calling out the plays before they happen then?
I disagree wholeheartedly that we telegraph every play.
quote:Agree, I hope they can execute some in the future.
BUT run blitzes and stacking the box is a damn dangerous strategy against cam Cameron. many of our long successful pass plays are the result of this "gambling" by their D and they were burned for it big time. and, if AJ and the OL and RB can learn to execute the screen pass it will be even more devastating to the opposing D that stacks the box.

as far as "creative" play calling, i'm just gonna come right and say you don't know what you're talking about. occasionally you can fool a defense but consistently winning football games is about EXECUTION, not trickery.

Give them some time. Coaches are obviously bringing Jennings along slowly. I think he is proving he can handle more and Cam will give it to him. O-line has actually been pretty decent considering we have been running into a stacked box. We ran into stacked boxes last year and opened it up when we needed to. I'd imagine we'll do that again this year.

they don't just SEEM to be underacheiving, they ARE underacheiving.

but, but, but, we have that offensive genius Cam Camerson on our side calling that NFL offense don't we???

Agree. when you have a good horse, RIDE HIM till he drops.

Doesn't mean much if you can't figure out who you are supposed to block.

Da fuq? We have a shite ton of talented linemen players on team. The only problem is most of them are young and need more experience. You can't judge linemen after their RS freshman year.
