Can't disagree with your reasoning.

Overall, it just bothers me that people use something that is intended to hurt a child as a primary method and/or are completely unaware of how ineffective they are using this method (e.g., waiting 6+ hours to administer the punishment when the other parent gets home; delayed feedback is not very effective).
