My parents never hit me.


The only time my father ever threatened to hit me ... I was a grown man by then, probably 23 or so.


I'd returned home to visit after my first tour of duty/cruise on a guided missile destroyer.

All male crew ... the language on the ship was vulgar at best.


Sat down to breakfast and later stated, "Momma, these are some GOD-DAYUM good pancakes."


Daddy did not appreciate that sort of language at his breakfast table, not that type of language to my mother.

Daddy was right.
