Tip for FOX Sports One, to compete with ESPN

(On the 0.0001% chance that they are reading this)
Limit your coverage of anything non-actually sports related to a 10% maximum of what ESPN is doing.
Namely things like Ray Rice, Redskins, lawsuits regarding concussions, Michael Sam, Tim Tebow, what the athletes think about politics, what the commentators think about politics, et cetera.
(Things like LeBron going to Cleveland or someone on steroids are OK because that affects on-field performance and the game).
I'm not saying that these topics aren't important, and to a certain extent you have to talk about Ray Rice, but ESPN talks about them non-stop and obviously mostly from a PC perspective. I suspect FOX Sports One, provided they have quality programming, could catch up with ESPN fairly quickly if they stuck with that game plan.

They wouldn't. Not talking about the biggest stories is a great way to run the network further into the ground.

Unfortunately, they get more viewers with the big stories. ESPN and FS1 are not for the real sports fan. They are for the average man.
There is a reason that ESPNews had bad ratings when they showed nothing but highlights all day.

If by real sports fan, you mean people that spend 6-10 hours of the day on TD.com, then you're right.
If we all cut this site from our lives, ESPN would be much less grating. On TD, we get wind of rumors hours or even days before the big networks can ever report on them in good conscience. By that time, those that first got wind of the news via a rumor are already sick of the story.
From a sheer reporting standpoint, ESPN would be crazy to not lead with the Ray Rice story for at least a week or more depending on how the information develops. Sure, they can do without the hot takes from their non-journalist personalities like the First Take crew and Ray Lewis, but, for the most part, they are doing their job.

Very good point. And it's true that we all spend way too much time on here.

Couldn't have said it better. I'm not a fan of ESPN but I always find it hilarious when people on here bash others for watching it

Ray rice getting cut and suspended indefinitely also impacts on field and the game.
And Peterson, these are stories directly affecting the game if football
