Agreed, its has its place and IMO a parent should pick their spots for using. The key is knowing your kid and knowing what buttons to push to keep them on the right path. Spankings work for some and others it takes other forms of punishment. ESPN will eventually have to change this over the top bullshite. That little segment was totally overboard. Just report whats happening. Explain that the punishment went too far when it reached the point of causing bleeding. Then pretty much leave it at that. I watch ESPN for sports, if I want to hear all of the ills of the world I will watch FOX, CNN or some other news channel.

Exactly. Spanking while angry and enraged is a bad thing, no matter what the situation.

My kids know when they're getting it, and it's done with a poker face. They have a minute to contemplate what's going on, and we talk about why they're getting it before hand. The kids have to know why there's pain in order for it to be a deterrent. Otherwise you're just hitting them, and they become scared of you rather than scared of behaviors.

I turned on ESPN while typing this, and turned it off after a few minutes. Unbearable tv. The hand wringing is ridiculous.
