Marriage is a great institution, and it behooves our society, and society in general, to promote it. Family law has really dealt a blow to the tradition in this country. Ideally, people should marry without any tangible fear of having their lives and bank accounts ruined by divorce for superficial reasons ("I'm not in love with you anymore" is a superficial reason for divorce, by the way), yet literally every person my age and younger has to weigh that possibility seriously, and it's why so many of us are choosing not to get married. It's a shame.
