One of the turnovers was his fault though. Saying he was awful is way too harsh but he was not as good as the stats indicate. He was holding on to the ball for far too long and took a beating as a result.

I do think the staff was trying to deter him from creating outside the pocket which really handicaps him

That's fair to say. IMO, he was a game manager today. He didn't play well enough to lead his team to victory but he didn't cause the team loss.

He is at fault for the fumble, although I don't think it is recorded as a fumble on his part in the stats?

Arguing that Cousins should be the starter though, as others have implied is ridiculous. Cousins has looked good in preseason but against 2/3rd string players. All one needs to do is look at his stats in career starts to see that he hasn't performed any better than RG3 in regular season games.
