Some GM vehicles that experienced that problem (Impalas) of no acceleration was a result of a throttle sensor that is mounted on the accelerator pedal. GM vehicles (and I guess other makes as well) no longer use an accelerator cable. The throttle is controlled electronically and the sensor (that's incorporated into the accelerator pedal assy) sends the signal. Don't know if Fords have such a sensor but maybe they do?

My Ford Escape 2010 had a similar problem.
Had to replace the throttle body.
Fixed it with no further problems.
If your engine is similar to mine, there may be a recall out on it. Look into it.
