Your answer was as vague as it could possibly be. It's not an answer.

The point is, when is it appropriate for your star player to shut it down?

Sorry I don't have an exact answer to a question that doesn't have one. It's up for him to decide when he just doesn't have it for the night. Clearly he thinks there is no point where he decides that. That makes him selfish and stupid IMO.

I tend to agree with him. I want my best player taking shots, whether he's hitting them or not. Obviously, I don't want him taking fade away threes, but if he is getting open looks and taking them, I don't see an issue.

Who says he's getting open? That's an awfully big assumption that was nowhere in the discussion. Maybe he's 0-30 because he takes shitty shots. So you want he to keep doing that because he's a star?

What would you have him do?

Pass the ball.

What if a player misses his first 9 rebounds?

What if a player makes 9 bad passes?

What if his teammates miss 9 straight shots after assist passes?

What if a player misses a few steals in a row?

Answer: keep playing aggressive and don't quit.

People slam Kobe for going 6-24 in game 7 against Boston.

Guess what, had he quit being aggressive the Lakers would not have won it all that year. People forget he exploded for 11 points in the 4th quarter in that game - leading them from behind to win. He's speaking from experience.

Did you read what you quoted? Everything in your response was addressed in the quote.

Humor me. You think 30 is enough to call him selfish and stupid. What's the cutoff for not being selfish and stupid?

Pass the ball.
If your star offensive player isn't willing to shoot the ball, take him out of the game. He isn't contributing anymore.
