Kevin Mawae & his involvement in the program

I know he got passed up for O-line coach in favor of Grimes. Rightfully so since he's never coached(even though I don't think that woulda mattered). But with his NFL resume (lock HOFer, head of the NFLPA), shouldn't there be a place for him in the program? Somewhere? Anywhere? Make up a position. He obviously wants to be involved. Just think doing local radio and tv is too small of potatoes for him. Could see him being a future AD or something. Thoughts?

He broke down film for the coaches last year.

His involvement will likely be what he wants it to be.

seems like he's pretty pumped to be involved in the TV deal. I'm good with that...

Do we know for sure that he 100% wanted the job? I know he was "considered", but do we know what that even means? Honest question. Maybe he and Les/Cam came to a conclusion that he didn't want to make that commitment. Who really knows?
Either way, the timing wasn't right this go-around. He wasn't the best candidate out there for us. Maybe it can be revisited down the line after he gets some coaching experience under his belt and if the opportunity is there.
That said, I don't think it'll be long before he is a part of our program in some kind of official manner, whether it be a coach or an administrative or advisory role for the team or the athletic department. He's too smart and has too much passion for LSU and the game of football to stay away.

based on his segment on the 104.5 morning show, he loves Grimes and what he's doing with the line...

Nice. I've heard nothing but fantastic things about Grimes' work thus far, and Mawae's stamp of approval means quite a bit.

quote:true, I'm assuming he wanted it/didn't get it. Maybe it's vice versa. Maybe after 20+ years of the grind he wanted something chill. Good point

AD?! Holy cow, do you have any idea what it takes to manage an athletic department like LSU's? Let's just cut to the chase and make him president of General Motors.

He's been at the two scrimmages and the few practices I've attended . Hands on during practice .

not sure this would be such a positive...why would you bring a labor union leader into your organization that is currently not unionized?...

He's heavily involved with Stealing Place Church. Not sure how much time he has to be active with the program.
