Yup, this sort of incident is where one would expect a responsible gun lobby to come out against such foolishness.

I fully expect the NRA to issue a statement saying that if only we armed kids at a younger age this sort of thing would never have happened.

Because...they are the center of dumbassery on this subject.

What foolishness? What legislation could have prevented this? Age limits on owning guns?

I don't know what the NRA will have to say but this story is unique in that it involved an automatic weapon, which is rare for adults to have access to, much less a nine-year-old girl, and she seemed to have been handling the gun okay when it was in semiauto mode.
