I know the built-in grills are higher quality... a lot heavier than a stand alone grill.

I'm not sure about dimensions but the built-ins might also come in standard sizes like stoves. One thing I would worry about is if you ever had to replace it. The stand alone grills have dimensions all over the place so if you ever had to replace it in your counter (and you know those things rot away after a few years) then you might not find one that fit exactly like the old one.
