I know people from up north who moved to Houston and eventually moved back because it was to hot for them.
I watched a show that posed the question, which cities wouldn't exist in their current capacity without air conditioning. Houston and Atlanta were the two majors and I can see that (New Orleans was already a bigger city before AC). Made me realize how hot it is and how difficult it would be for a lot of people.

Both are actually very similar cities. Both developed a great deal after WWII, both were the same size around the 1850's, both grew due to oil, both are characterized by massive sprawl and both have major Hispanic populations. I really dislike Houston due to it's sprawl, and I dislike Los Angeles for the same reason.
