Our work place has very spotty crappy AT&T service
is there any way to connect a wireless router without having admin rights etc to the company network

Yes, you will need the password to the network though....there is a switch or router somewhere you have to plug into.

I would NOT recommend connecting a company owned device to Wi-Fi if they don't want u to.
If that comapany has any sort of mature I.T. structure they will know. And cut you off. This is a major security risk.
