How can this be legal, and why can't police evict these squatters?

Roy Nylund recently bought a new home in Portland, Oregon, but included with the house was a pair of unwelcome squatters who would ultimately make the homeowner’s life extremely difficult. Nylund says he sent a contractor to some work after he had closed on the home, but the contractor later called him back and told him there were two people occupying the place. Not only had they changed the locks, the squatters also reportedly had started a utility service in their name.

I'm not sure how squatters rights work, but it takes a special kind of entitled shitheadedness to occupy someone's home and refuse to leave.

People like this deserve to be beaten to death with hammers and left bleeding in the moonlight.

Adverse possession law but how they can't charge with vandalism breaking & entering is beyond me. Nothing pepper spray & a punch to the throat wouldn't fix

I saw a Dateline show last week on a squatter named Loki boy. He was in a million dollar Florida home and I think he stayed there over a year? He was an aspiring rapper and even filmed one of his videos there. He was eventually evicted, but I'm still stunned that anyone could pull this off.

Why not wait until they leave and then break into your own house and wait for them to come back? When they break and enter and while you are fearing for your life, shoot the sons of bitches.

Let me make myself clear, and anyone is welcome to forward this as high as the fbi if need be.......any motherfricker on or in propert I legally own and thinks they a squatting there is sadly mistaken. I'm kicking in the door with weapons drawn and throwing their sorry asses in the street by their throats and burning every little thing they own in front if their eyes. They would really need to squat somewhere after that. These stories shock me, especially when I hear it went on for months! If you own a home, go in and defend it, it's your right. I'd like to see them sue to get back in, lol

But seriously, how do you close on a home and not know people are there? Didn't you do a final walkthrough? You had to tell the contractor what you wanted done, right?

Yeah this particular story is odd. I could understand better if it were a foreclosed property.

I want to take this action against them and it's not even my home. There is NO WAY IN HELL I would allow someone to disrespect me or my property the way these people do.

Squatters piss me off so much. However, it is crazy that these people weren't discovered until after closing.

Those squatters are going to trash that house before they are evicted.

It doesn't sound like the owner was spending a great deal of time checking the progress of this build? Maybe he had multiple building projects going?

That's why you watch them and wait till they leave for the store or whatever. Have enough help ready then put all of their shite in a dump truck and haul it off and change the locks.

They did this with the Loki Boy character in Florida, but a local judge says he wasn't properly evicted. So even though the house has been sold, there are still legal matters pending that the bank has to clear up!

So what, he's fricking out if I own it. Again, if I legally own it, I could a frick less what the moron does in court.

And the same goes if I'm an owner trying to sell it. Throw him out and out the meanest mitherfricker I know staying there to turn away anyone trying to get in.
Just make the squatter prove he ever lived there to begin with.

court
Once I had them out of MY house, I wouldn't even show up for court. Nor would I respond to any court orders or answer the door for any police that might show up. I would act like the squatters were never even there.

Would love to know what would happen if this were to actually take place.

No way these squatters meet even the most liberal standards for that, especially not to trump recorded deed.

This problem is solved with a 12 gauge and a set of balls imo.

This is easy to say on a chat board, but not so easy if you are jailed for murder or homicide.
